I have talked before about changing the way I shoot newborns.. After Vivian was born and I recalled how fast the days go by when you have a newborn and how little I remembered from the day to day due to the fussiness, lack of sleep and roller coster of hormones that I was dealing with that only the pictures that I was taking where helping my poor brain to keep up with all. So I decided that I was JUST going to shoot REAL BABIES.. no more posed uncomfortable newborns.. no more bean bag with backdrops shoots, no more composites in photoshop to get “the” shot…
Not going to lie but it’s been hard.. I used to shoot 1-2 newborns a month now I’ve shot 3-4 newborns during the whole year.. :( makes me sad that I’ve lost so many clients but I feel like I need to be clear with them that while I will take pictures of the baby sleepy and naked, I wouldn’t do things that the baby wouldn’t do naturally.. and lets be honest, the posed newborn pictures are BIG right now.
But then I have those few clients who do hire me, those who are totally ok with me capturing the new baby as a mommy would see it.. as I want to remember my own newborn days.. the growing bond of the new baby.. the little things.. Then I realize how lucky I am for those clients who give me the chance to come celebrate with them the joy of a new baby.
Sofia was born a couple of months ago and I was called to photograph her.. How beautiful she is.. I absolutely LOVE what we got during my visit to her house. That excitement that only first parents have. Just beautiful.
